JOB SUMMARY:

The classroom teacher must supervise and insure the safety and well-being of children at all times and be alert to the needs and concerns of the children as individuals, and also as a group. The teacher must work in collaboration with the assistant teacher, family worker, and program director to properly implement learning activities and adhere to all licensing and district requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establish and maintain a high-quality learning environment in accordance with the Board of Education , Office of Licensing, NAEYC (National Association of Young Children), and Grow NJ Kids requirements.
  2. Maintain line-of-sight supervision of the children throughout the school day.
  3. Implement the daily program as outlined in the class schedule with the help of the assistant teacher including rest and mealtimes.
  4. Implement instruction as written in weekly lesson plan; maintain fidelity to required BOE program guides - The Creative Curriculum for Preschool; Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS-3), and Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT).
  5. Delegate and supervise activities to be carried out by the assistant teacher.
  6. Collect assessment data and upload to the online assessment system on a weekly basis for the purpose of informing instruction
  7. Complete and finalize student assessment data, prepare progress reports, and hold parent conferences in accordance with BOE assessment schedule. Parent conferences may be held outside of regularly scheduled hours.
  8. Encourage and participate in parental involvement activities within he classroom/school community, including: attending Back to School Night; Open Houses; parent workshops and field trips.
  9. Work cooperatively as a team member within your classroom, individual grade level, inter-grade levels, administratively and the entire school community.
  10. Work with the BOE personnel for purposes of instruction, training, student assessments, evaluations and referrals.
  11. Adhere to Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, Office of Licensing and Early Learning Program policies and procedures.
  12. Responsible to report and put in writing any accident or unusual occurrence to the Program Director, or Director’s Designee, before the end of the scheduled work day.
  13. Report any suspected case of child abuse to the appropriate authorities as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Office of Licensing “Information to Parents” document, and BOE Guidelines.
  14. Maintain classroom equipment, curriculum materials and supplies.
  15. Inform Program Director, or Director’s Designee, of classroom safety, and or maintenance need.
  16. Follow program, Office of Licensing and NAEYC guidelines for cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  17. Attend scheduled workshop/trainings and pursue professional development hours in accordance with agency, program, Office of Licensing and Board of Education requirements.
  18. Attend classroom observation follow-up meetings and staff evaluations.
  19. Attend monthly staff meetings approximately one hour in length outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  20. Assist as needed to ensure the health and safety practices of the Office of Licensing and Board of Education are properly adhered to at all times.
  21. Carry out additional tasks as requested by the Program Director, or Director’s Designee.
  22. Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time to support the effective and efficient operation of Catholic Charities.

REMOTE LEARNING RESPONSIBILITES:

In the event of an extended building closure and the need to continue instruction virtually:

  1. Implement the PPS BOE remote daily schedule and learning lesson plan.
  2. Create assignments to supplement the PPS BOE remote learning lesson plan as needed.
  3. Support parents/guardians as "educational facilitators" and encourage student participation.
  4. Delegate and supervise activities to be carried out by the assistant teacher.
  5. Maintain availability throughout your regularly scheduled hours.
  6. Continue to assess student development as appropriate based on information received from families and enter data in the online assessment management tool.
  7. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings via video conference.
  8. Safeguard school technology/equipment and return upon resumption of in-classroom instruction.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a Standard Certificate for Teacher of Preschool through Grade 3, a Certificate of Eligibility, or a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing, and must obtain a Standard Certificate for Teacher of Preschool through Grade 3 within two years.
  2. Knowledge of Social Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language Development of young children.
  3. Effective English oral and written skills.
  4. Bilingual Spanish, Arabic, and/or Bengali oral and written skills a plus.
  5. Effective comprehension and reasoning skills.
  6. Computer literacy skills.
  7. Ability to accurately fill out necessary documentation and forms.
