Custodian/Driver

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Custodian performs custodial, maintenance and delivery services in and around the facility, troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and responds to emergency calls for service, implements setup and take down for a wide variety of meetings, works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial needs of the organization, and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

HOURS: Monday-Friday 7:00am-1:00pm

PAY: $18.00/Hr

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Picks-up and delivers items such as documents, packages, run errands, etc. as required between the Diocese of Paterson, the various Catholic Family & Community Services sites and other locations.

  1. Follows a daily/weekly detailed schedule of cleaning the floors, offices, bathrooms, kitchen and coffee.

  1. Attends to emergencies when necessary.

  1. Safely operates all vehicles and other job related equipment.

  1. Disposes of garbage/rubbish/recycling.

  1. Performs preventative maintenance in and around the facility. Fixes and repairs minor damages and reports any problems that require professional assistance.

  1. Reports any major breakage or loss or shortage of equipment and supplies.

  1. Does frequent inspections of facility, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon. Ensures that there are adequate supplies.

  1. Ensures that equipment and tools used in cleaning/repairing are secure and in good condition.

  1. Stores detergent and other toxic substances in a secure place.

  1. Unloads deliveries when required and moves furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an as needed basis.

  1. Locks and unlocks assigned facilities when not in use checking for unlocked doors and window, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights etc.

  1. Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time to support the effective and efficient operation of Catholic Charities.

  1. Must be able to wax and refinishing floor.

  1. Must be able to fix minor plumbing and electrical.

ABILITY TO:

Operate manual and power equipment; perform physical labor; understand and carry out verbal and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships demonstrate sensitive to and respect for a diverse population.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to regulations; and handling and disposing of materials and trash with care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or GED.

  1. One year of custodial and maintenance experience.

  1. Must have valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.

  1. Ability to work independently and in an orderly manner with minimal supervision.

  1. Must be able to work weekends when needed, and all special events.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to Operations Director

Maintains cooperative working relationships with all employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to perform physical activities, such as but no limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing and walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment contain chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
