Driver Part Time (Meals on Wheels)

Driver - Meals on Wheels

Hours: Part Time 25 hours, Monday -Friday 7:30am - 12:30pm

Location: Franklin, NJ

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Duties include working cooperatively with the Meals on Wheels staff to help set-up kitchen and bags in morning. Using MOW vehicle, pick up food from caterer and return to site. Help to package hot or cold meals in appropriate bags and distribute to homebound clients. Drop off bulk food to nutrition centers. Help clean kitchen after packing meals. Complete monthly site and vehicle checklists. Flexible and enjoys working with seniors.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Help prepare MOW site for the delivery of food, including placing hot stones or ice packs in appropriate bags.
  2. Assist in the separation and distribution of food at the MOW site.
  3. Work cooperatively with other staff to pack hot or cold meals.
  4. Work together with other staff to clean-up work area.
  5. Help to load vans and follow designated route.
  6. Drop bulk food at nutrition sites and bags at volunteer sites.
  7. Deliver meals to client homes and when volunteers are not available.
  8. Check bags, carriers and coolers for cleanliness and clean daily.
  9. Call office immediately if client is in distress or not home
  10. Drive MOW van to caterers for pick-up of food and deliver back to site. Unload cambros/coolers bring into site and place others in appropriate vans.
  11. Return empty carriers to the caterer or site and place in order.
  1. Attend classes for food handling, CPR, first aid and other relevant courses.
  2. No smoking in MOW vehicles, keep van clean at all times.
  3. Report any maintenance needs for vehicle, take van to garage when repairs are needed and pick up when complete.
  4. Use personal vehicle when necessary to deliver meals or other tasks when needed.
  5. Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time to support the effective and efficient operation of Catholic Charities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Clean and current driving license
  2. Good working knowledge of food safety
  3. Must be reliable and prompt
  4. Strong customer service skills
  5. Position requires that this individual be able to lift 40 pounds.
